Mr. Peter Skillington is an Australian Trained Cardiothoracic Surgeon. During his Australian training, he spent six months training at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne with Mr. Roger Mee and Mr. Bill Brawn. He then pursued an Overseas Fellowships in both the UK and US, in Southampton in the UK initially for one year (where they had a moderate sized paediatric practice with senior surgeon Mr. James Munro). He then spent 12 months in Boston, with six months as a Cardiac Surgery Fellow at the Boston Children’s Hospital, USA..
He commenced combined adult and paediatric cardiac surgery practice in Melbourne in 1990, initially with appointments at the Royal Children’s Hospital and Royal Melbourne Hospital. In 1995, he became a dedicated Adult Cardiothoracic Surgeon. At the Royal Melbourne Hospital, he has developed a large Adult Congenital Cardiac Surgery service, which has steadily grown. In the past 25 years, there have been 800 patients operated on at RMH, and affiliated private hospitals. He also has a strong interest in the Ross procedure in adult and teenage patients (420 procedures to date).
